Song of the Day: September 2, 2008

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 02-09-2008

Today we’re going for a little Wolf Parade. Listen to their song You Are a Runner and I Am My Father’s Son, from their fantastic album Apologies to the Queen Mary. Their new one isn’t too shabby either, it’s called At Mount Zoomer. The vocals are a little raw, which is nice, and it’s a different sound than a lot of music you may be used to.

When and How to Withdraw Your eBay Bid (and Why You Might Not Want To).

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 02-09-2008

eBay are a little strict about letting you withdraw your bid. They call it a ‘bid retraction’, and have a stringent set of conditions that you must meet before you are allowed to do it. Here are eBay’s three acceptable reasons for withdrawing a bid.
You made a typographical error: This means that you accidentally typed the wrong amount into the bid box, bidding a far higher price than you meant to. This can be scary: imagine bidding $100 and accidentally adding an extra ‘0′! You are entirely allowed to withdraw your bid in this situation, and bid again if you want to.
The item’s description changed: If you bid on something and then the seller updates the description, you have the right to withdraw your bid. It wouldn’t be fair, after all, to force you to take something that you now realise you don’t want.
The seller is uncontactable: If emails to [...]

Audition

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 02-09-2008

On Thursday I have an audition for a local band. Quite impressed with the site partysounds, as I have had 2 responses to my ad in as many days.
I was looking to form or join an existing band, this one is about as local as can be so will be nice not having to add an hour’s travelling before and after practicing like I had to with funktion.
Hopefully I will get on OK with the guys. They are also auditioning a singer at the same time, not sure if that is a good or a bad thing!
Busy wearing my fingertips to the bone practicing!

dedicatori

This one’s for Alts, Candy, Lou, my LEAPmates, my councilmates Alvin and Suzeth, and Coach, should they pass by. With gratitude always. And so much love.

Philadelphia
(written by Neil Young, off the film Philadelphia; lyrics here as sung by Tori Amos)

Philadelphia…
Philadelphia…

Sometimes I think that I know
what love’s all about
and when I see the light
I know I’ll be alright,
Philadelphia…

I’ve got my friends in the world,
I had my friends
when we were boys and girls,
and the secrets came unfurled.

City of brotherly love,
place I call home,
don’t turn your back on me.
I don’t want to be alone.

Someone is talking to me,
calling my name,
tell me I’m not to blame.
I won’t be ashamed of love,
Philadelphia…

City of brotherly love,
brotherly love,
don’t be ashamed of love,
Philadelphia…

Sometimes I think that I know
what love’s all about
and when I see the light
I know I’ll be alright,
Philadelphia…

Particle Accelerator Rap

Hadron Rap. You know the giant particle accelerator that some fear will open a black hole and suck up us, and all matter in this area of the known universe in? Explicated in a rap.

Se7en is trying

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 02-09-2008

Unlike a certain someone who has been “controlling (his) mind and menu with chicken breasts and vegetables”, Se7en has actually put his money where his mouth is.
How?

Well, Se7en has just launched his new official Myspace page. His English skills are infinitely better than Magic Feet, mega U.S. producer Dark Child is backing him up and the man definitely has soul when he sings (in Korean).
So the million dollar question is-is this enough?
Like Rain and Boa, Se7en is another Korean pop-star who has been eying a slice of America for quite some time. Last year, POPSEOUL! was disappointed by his performance (or lack of) at the launch party in New York. The Rain rival must have been working under the radar since because now, Se7en looks ready for the American spotlight. But again, is America ready for him?

Check out his My Space greeting:

Mogwai releases new album

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 02-09-2008

Mogwai has just released their sixth full-length studio album “The Hawk is Howling.” I’m loving what I’m hearing so far.  Album seems an elegant return to form, with tunes that hark back to early Mogwai albums.
You’ve all got to watch the video of The Sun Smells Too Loud, a song off Mogwai’s new album. The video, which is an exercise in synesthesia, is solid gold. Ridiculously and wonderfully insane.

Shamazon / Glama-wrong?

Some people just couldn’t organise a Piss-Up in a Brewery.

Glamazon might be off due to circumstances out of my control. I will keep you posted on the status of this night…

Dope Wackness

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 02-09-2008

Check out The Quietus’ thoroughly ace alternative soundtrack for upcoming film The Wackness. This takes me back to a golden age of baggy clothes, lurid colours, discovering a lot of new music and the vague feeling of being somehow connected with a mid-to-late 90s existence in California surrounded by skaters, dope smokers, DJs, grunge kids and people with dreads, even though I was living in the cold, wet, blinkered north east of England with my parents.
