Noa Babayof - Indian Queen (From a Window to a Wall)
Three months away left me a little out of any loop that might be relevant in keeping tabs on new music, a detriment that I’m still feeling and reeling in the effects of. That said, there’s one artist who JInx showed me who blows my mind.
Philly based Israeli folkie Noa Babyof borrows from the Philidelphian folk scene (Fursaxa, Helena Epsvall, Greg Weeks, Meg Baird and pretty much all of Espers) but creates something more akin to folk delivered in the Judee Sill kind of way. As in the gorgeous, intricate, perfected songmanship. It’s carefully crafted and is full of intention which is something far from the free-form that most of her new-home contemporaries adopt and adapt. FYI Greg Weeks does a great job of production. This is an incredibly beautiful sounding album.
